Patchwork

I'm sharing a patchwork effect card I created from lots of small snippets of K&Co patterned papers, I'm sorry I can't for the life of me remember the name and because the pieces were quite small, there was no name left on the bottom strip.

The card base is 8x8 as anything smaller wouldn't give the white space I like.  I started by cutting the little bits of patterned paper into squares and rectangles, then took to the sewing machine to edge them very roughly and I left the end threads showing on purpose.  I arranged the snippets on my card first and took a photo when I was happy as a reference point.

The butterflies were cut in black cardstock and attached to some bigger bits of the same paper and then fussy cut out and adhered using foam pads for a bit of lift.  I added a few paint splatters in various colours to match and bring the whole card together.

From the Cats!

A very quick card to post today, it was made for my husband from our two rescue cats, pictures opposite of the pair.

Both my husband and myself have children from previous relationships but sadly we don't have any together.  What we do have is our two cats that we adopted last Christmas when they were about five months old, after I lost my beloved 12 year old cat Lacie.  They were originally called Branston & Pickles but no way in hell was I shouting those names out at dinner time so we renamed them to Holly, obviously Christmas time and Loki because he really is the epitome of the Norse God of Chaos.

It was very quick to make, just a bit of stamping and colouring which gave me time to play with my new Tim Holtz Stamping Platform... yay!

Supplies: Basic white cardstock, Stamping All Day sentiment, Little Claire Designs Silhouette Cats stamp, Inktense pencils, Whispers Royal Blue & Sunshine ink pads and Hobby Craft clear gems.

ROAR!

I'm ashamed to say that these Basic Grey Dino stamps from the Archaic range that were purchased on release date probably some ten years ago have never been opened, let alone used until this week - shocking but I feel I might not be alone in that crafting crime!

I used them to create my father-in-laws Father's Day card, I don't really own many stamps/dies that can be used for masculine cards so I dragged out these to see what I could come up with.  When I sat down to craft, I had absolutely no idea where to begin with these dinosaurs but I did remember I had off-cuts of the matching paper range and thankfully it came together quite well, I think.

All of the off-cuts have been inked to within an inch of their lives and I incorporated some embossed cogs just because I wanted too.  The leaves were purposely cut out of green cardstock to make them pop and give a jungle feel, not sure dinosaurs roamed in the jungle but you get the feel :) - I added little dino tracks to the frame for a bit of fun.

A close up of the dinosaurs that were stamped in Distress Ink and then fussy cut out and you can see the little tracks.  Hopefully, my father-in-law won't think I'm secretly calling him a dinosaur, but he has a wonderful sense of humour so its all good :)

Steampunk

With Father's Day just around the corner I thought I had better sit down and make a card for my wonderful step-dad, not easy as he's not really into sports or pints (as many male cards seem to slot every man into those two categories).

Light bulb moment - cogs = Steampunk... perfect!

This is what I came up with and its pretty much how I sketched it, unusual for me as I normally stray!

I did want the balloons to be more like the colour of medicine balls, a faux leather look but I kinda like the muted brown/orange colour they've dried too.

The cogs have been die cut onto Kraft card and embossed with an antique gold and copper embossing powder.  All of the papers have been inked heavily to create a rusty effect, replicating Steampunk - I hope :)

Entering - Daisy Chain Challenges - Monochromatic

Smile

Phew, there doesn't appear to be enough hours in the day to do everything I'd like too but I did manage to make a card this morning which will work nicely with the snippets challenge over on Pixies Snippets Playground.

The last time I crafted, I discovered my 'Smile' stamp from Heidi Swapp as well as many other forgotten goodies.  I should perhaps loose items more frequently to uncover these little lost gems of craftiness.  Anyway I decided the next card made would feature the stamp and so it has...

I'm hoping the card makes you smile and as a cat lover I thought it would be cute to feature a little birdie and a cat watching a butterfly fly away. Everything on the card is from my box of scraps so it fits purrfectly into challenge :)

Supplies: White textured cardstock, Bazzill green cardstock, Heidi Swapp 'Smile' stamp, Spellbinders Springtime, Your Next Die Doubled Stitched Hills, Magnolia Paris Night (cat) and Sizzix Garden Greens dies, Stamps Away butterfly stamp, MFT Cloud stencil, Whispers blue ink pad and Hobby Craft clear gems.
